Holidays.
When you are on holiday do not and I repeat do not do any work for work, no txt messages, e-mails, phone calls, paper work or prepartion for when you get back.

A holiday is a holiday and the world will continue and work without you perfectly well for a week or two.

It is essential for you to avoid burn out, feel cheated of time even if you don’t think it now you might later.

If you have family it is also important that they do not feel cheated by your work at home also.

You need to fully recharge and be bursting with passion when you return feeling refreshed and ready for the next period before you get a well earned rest.

The best way to achieve this is to hand over anything that needs to be done and let everyone know you are on holiday.

For me I switch off the phone and have a different e-mail adress for work.

If I am having a break at home I vet my calls coming in by answer phone.

This might sound extreme but it is really important and especially in youth work which can be intense.

So make sure your holiday is what it says.
