Semaphore (well sort of).
Â
The aim of this challenge is to devise a method of communication (non verbal) and then be the first team to communicate a given message over the length of a sports hall or simillar.

Divide into groups of a minimum of four and as large as you want.

Give them twenty -thirty minutes to come up with there form of communication, stress it must not involve sound in any way.

If they are struggling explain how semaphore uses arm movements for each letter of the alphabet.

Every one in the team must have a grasp of it.

At the end of the time split the group in half and put half one end of the hall and the others the other end.

To one team give a written message not to long, but also not to short.

To the others give a pen and paper.

On the given word set them off and when a team thinks they have the correct message they must bring it to the leader to check.

If it is, that team wins, let the others finish.

Afterwards discuss what was hard, how they worked as a team.

It can be a good introduction about being misunderstood, and the frustrations that brings.

It is well worth filming the groups doing there form of semaphore to use as an amusing clip at a later point, put to a piece of music it can be very funny indeed.
