Panel of Experts
Decide on the subject to be discussed and get a panel of two or three experts in the field you will probably find these in your church congregation but don’t be afraid to look wider.

Before the event get the young people to write questions they want answered from the panellists on the day, if you don’t you could end up with long silences.

Once you have the questions a good way to run it is to type them up and give them back to the young people on the day and you have a list of questions and person.

To chair the event say ….. has a question to ask then they put it to which ever person they wish to.

When that person has answered ask the others on the panel if they want to add anything.

This method keeps the evening flowing, give chance for other questions to be asked from the floor that arise from the dicussion.

Finally have a few questions up your sleave to add some humour as this will help hold their concentration longer.

This really is a good technique if used occassionally. I have used this to great affect on the subjects of sex, racism, and abortion.

It is worth the effort.
