Cultural Lunch
Food is a great leveller when we eat together we talk, we laugh, our taste buds come alive but so do our other senses and barriers are broken down.
This is a valuable piece of work if you work with young people from different ethnic backgrounds.
Get them to arrange a cultural lunch where each group brings food from their own ethnic traditions. On the day they are encouraged to sample food from all groups, to ask questions maybe learn a greeting in each language.
This normally leads to a fresh understading and stereo types being broken down. It is always interesting that people seem to see the simillarities they share.
One I went to many performed music as well which was fantastic especially when young people jammed at the end in an amazing unrehearsed fusion. Â
