Oh well that’s life I suppose!
Â
N.B.: This can raise a lot of strong feelings so don’t do this if someone in your group has suffered a loss recently. However whenever we have used it young people have found it really helpful as an introduction to the subject.
For the coffin: We made ours out of cardboard so it was the right shape etc but not too realistic. Leaders dressed in black and dim lighting all add to the affect.
Start the drama with a piece of eerie music.
The Script: <P>
I don’t know is that what it’s all about?
Seventeen years of life and just when it starts to get going, boom and that’s that!
What happened did you say?
A bus hit me, the 216, not really paying attention I suppose!
I stepped into the road and bang, splat, and the next thing I knew I didn’t wake up.
I knew you know, that was it.
My whole life flashed before my eyes, the good bits and the bad bits I was ashamed of.
Then all of a sudden there was this big que of people who had been turned away from heaven….Hang on a second someone’s coming.
(Lies back down).
(Enter mourner: deeply upset walks to the coffin, looks in and says how much they miss him. Takes a deep breath and leaves). The body sits back up and starts talking again.
It’s nice to know someone cared!
It’s not fair really, I had plans you know.
I was going to make something of my life, you know be a success, rich and famous, with all the perks.
But I didn’t really get a fair crack at it! Not a full innings so to speak!
(pause for a moment thinking)
I always said God didn’t exist.
I thought when you died that was it.
Funny how wrong you can be.
I wish I’d listened to Jane know at the youth club.
Oh well that’s life I suppose!
(Lies back down person enters and places the lid back on).
Eerie music plays to end.
