Where will you spend eternity.

I was sent this illustration by Dan, it is by Tony Campolo and is just fabulous, I had heard it used in the summer at New Wine and forgotten about it till now.

Stealing a Bible.

This was in yesterdays “The London Paper” I’m sure it will be useful somewhere when talking about the Bible, the ten commandments or as a discussion starter.

Singapore: A judge who sentenced a man to four months’ jail for stealing a Bible gave him a copy as a gift. Telling the defendant to open it, he said: “You will see at page 65 that it says, ‘thou shalt not Steal.’”

Amazing facts about Israelites in the desert.

This links with God Provides in this section and is great to use if talking about Moses.

For the Israelites to cross the Red Sea at night. If they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get through. So there had to be space in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide so they could walk 5000 a breast to get over in one night.

God provides.

This did the e-mail rounds a few years back and I suddenly remebered it when talking about how God provides and his generosity so dug it out my files.

It looks at what was needed to provide for the Israelites whilst in the dessert. I don’t know the source.

Moses and the people were in the desert, but what was he going to do with them?

George Washington Carver.

Have you heard of George Washington Carver? I hadn’t until recently and I asked a congregation and only two people had, which is a mystery when he is such a remarkable Christian a hero of the faith. What follows is a short summary of his life (with lots of gaps) but hopefully it wil give you a taste and you will see he is a man worth talking about and great for illustrations. I have discovered numerous books since and loads on the web.

We Reap what we Sow.

Billy Graham’s daughter was being interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her ‘How could God let something like this happen?’ And Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response.

Brick by Brick

Stan was a bricklayer and every lunch time he would sit down take out an enourmous lunchbox which always contained two cheese and pickle sandwiches and a cup cake. The lunch box was so big compared to its contents that every body used to make fun of it, but he just smiled ate his lunch then taking his box and bag would go for a walk around the site without fail rain or shine.
He had worked for the company for years and everyone said he always did the same, but he never brought a smaller lunch box.
Until one day when his routine was disturbed by the police turning up and taking him to the station, what possibly could he have done, he is so mild.
Well pretty soon the news was out that Stan had built a massive extension on the side of his house and all the materials were stollen. Everyday for the last 18 years he had eaten his lunch then carefully whilst no one (or so he thought) was watching he would fill that box with bricks, go home at the end of the day and lay them.
His extension must have been the slowest ever built and only three weeks after he had finished it was demolished as the materials were not his, and he got a one year prison sentence. <P>
He argued that it was only a few bricks!
