Look a little deeper.

Freedom

img059

Here are two pictures to help you think about freedom, they can be used to help stimulate discussion around this key Biblical theme. The first should raise some interesting debate about how free we are.

(You are free to use both images but you may not use this work for commercial purposes. Should you wish to use them commercially contact Beef via the site.)

How would you define freedom?

Are we thinking for ourselves?

When you see a Muslim lady what is your reaction especially if she is wearing her hijab?

I have a Muslim friend and she is fed up of the looks and the fear she sees in peoples eyes when she gets on the tube.

She says she wants people to see the real her.

The media influences our views more than we like to admit. Can you see through th blur?

Show me hope.

When you see a young person with a hoodie up what do you think?

Do you see a thug? A yob? Someone who is a drain on society.

Do you feel they should be locked up or do you see the real person, underneath the hoodie.

The media has a lot to answer for.

Angry Art.

Get some largre boards and paint them white with matt emulsion hardboard works well for this (the smooth side).

Then have brushes and paint available, but choose colours such as blacks, browns, reds, dark purples etc colours that express anger.

Get the group to think about what always makes them angry then simply let them paint.

Self -Image.

Give everyone a piece of paper and the instructions that they are to create a collage that illustrates themselves, it can either be a self portrait or something that illustrates something about their life or personality.

Stick on some music and give them some time and space in which to do this.

I have used this many times and am always amazed by what is produced, some reveal things very personal to them, others deep feelings or longings.

When done it is good to display the pictures and then get them to give a one minute presentation of what it represents, if people are scared to do this in a large group do it within smaller clusters. You can then build on what has been brought up.

Prophetic Art

Creating a space for artists to create during a service or the worship can have incredible power and often prophetic.

Simply give people permission for people to express themselves in this way with no boundaries and you will be amazed. t;
We have had some incredible pictures in these times and ones that have directly spoken into peoples lives.
