A break from the routine.

If you run a youth group, service etc that follows the same pattern there is real value in taking a break from the normal routine. Yes this takes a bit more planning and thought but it is these times that can be the real times of growth in a persons development. Also it can be these times that let other young people shine for a while because they have another way to express themselves.

Get it the right way around!

I have had several conversations and requests for help in the last few months and each has had the same problem.

The problem being that they planned their weekend away, retreat or camp and had not given any thought about what they wanted to say about God or what God might want to say to those attended their event.

All the activities and other programme were sorted apart from the most fundermental part.

Let them Know.

One of the most common complaints I hear from Youth Pastors is that the church isn’t interested in what they are doing. Often when talked through it highlights the fact that you are not letting them know what is happening etc.

Delegate.

Holidays.

When you are on holiday do not and I repeat do not do any work for work, no txt messages, e-mails, phone calls, paper work or prepartion for when you get back.

A holiday is a holiday and the world will continue and work without you perfectly well for a week or two.

It is essential for you to avoid burn out, feel cheated of time even if you don’t think it now you might later.

Laminate

Laminator machines are fairly cheap now and they will save you time and effort.

Many resources can be used over and over all be in different places.

Laminating them protects them and makes them look better.

I got into this habit years ago and am still able to use some several years old.

The Art of saying No

A time management expert once said to me people aren’t too busy to do what they should be doing its all the things they shouldn’t be doing that eats the time.

Let me explain, in ministry and life in general you have your work to do and then people keep asking you to help with other things, or could you just do this for us.

Or could you come and speak at this on Wednesday.
