Touch Rugby.

Split the group into two, one team are the chasers and the other the runners.

The object of the chasers is to touch the runners with the rugby ball.

The ball can only be passed and chasers cannot run with the ball.

A runner is out when he is touched by the rugby ball, which is still in the hand of a chaser; they are not out if it is thrown.

Body Surfing.

You will need a minimum of ten people a single lilo or dingy that one young person can lie in.

Get everyone lying on the floor so that one person feet faces one wall and the next persons to the opposite wall and so that their heads are close together.

Then get them to put there arms in the air and on top of them place a lilo or dingy.

Grab the tail

Divide the teams into two and give each team a strip of cloth about 600mm long.

Each teams cloth should be a different colour.

Each person tucks the cloth into the back of their trousers.

At each end of the hall mark a safe area with tape.

On go each team has to make its way to the other safe area and in the process must try and steal tails from other people whilst not losing their own.

Anyone losing their tail is out.

Play until you have a sole winner.

Tug of War.

For this you need:
Two teams.

A decent length thick rope with its centre marked with a ribbon.

This is best played on a flat field otherwise the team pulling up moan if the lose.

Each team takes grip and on the word both pull the winning team is the team who pulls someone over the line first.

I have yet to find a group who doesn’t like this.

A good variation is too have a very muddy section in the middle so the insentive to win is even greater.

Make sure the anchor person doesn’t tie the rope around themselves as that is dangerous and make sure that a team doesn’t suddenly let go of the rope ( on pain of death or something close).

Rattlesnake.

For this choose two people one you blindfold and the other you give a rattle.
The aim is in a minute for the blindfolded person to catch the rattlesnake.
Set them of and at 10 second intervals shout rattle and the person with the rattle must give a good shake.
It is best to not make the playing area too big for this and to let lots of people have a go.
It is worth asking how the blindfolded players felt, what frustrated them and what they take for granted.

Steal the Bacon.

The basic aim of the game is for players to grab a cloth in the middle of the room and sit back down untouched.

Divide the group into two teams and have them sit on opposite walls facing each other, number of each team one- however many you have and place the cloth in the middle of the room.

Time Bomb

For this you will need:

Five or six identical boxes or tubs and in each one set a alarm clock or kitchen timer all for different times.

Pack the clocks in so they don not rattle about.

The young people sit in a circle and pass the boxes around when one goes off the person holding it has to do a forfiet or answer a question honestly.

This is great fun and you can feel the tension rising in the room.

Another option is to hand boxes out to people as they arrive and say they could explode at any minute so must pass them on as if you are left holding it you must answer the question or do a forfiet.

It works well as an opener.
