New Blog

Matt Calvert of Prospex is about to embark on his sabattical and will be visiting different youth work projects in the UK and the Bronxs USA. His thoughts and reflections can be found on youth work explored, this will start after two weeks holiday but could prove an interesting read and worth checking out..

Boomwhackers

I have just purchased my first set of Boomwhackers, these are tuned musical tubes if you haven’t come across them before. They have loads of potential from team building, and worship. The best thing is everybody seems to love them and want a go.

I am at present experimenting with some kids worship ideas more to come soon.

Oh what fun.

Drum workshops.

I am currently working on a package for schools and clubs for my drum workshops.

These have proved really popular and I already have some interest for next year.

I am also looking to team up with Tom Calvert an amazing beat boxer and musician to add another bow to my string. He will also be training me up in the new term in beat boxing and using Ableton Live.

Drum Workshop.

I spent a day in a local school this week leading a drum workshop. This was all with Brazillian drums and percussion particularly my four Cajons. The day was spent working with six classes and at the end five from each were picked to come back for another session were we put together a latin groove with guitar which will be performed on Thursday night at their cultural night.

Thank You!

This is a challenge to give those you work with to encourage those who have impacted their lives and faith. It is particularly good with older teens or Uni students.

TXT it.

I don’t know why I have never done this as it makes so much sense. Engaging with the technollogy we use every day.

Instead of using a post box or question box for questions on a weekend or session simply post up a mobile number and get them to TXT them in.

Diabolo pass.

You can pick up a resonable diabolo for around £5 in the UK and it
is worth buying a few if your budget stretches enough.
This is a good game for those who have mastered it fairly well and
it was made up by my 8 year old daughter on the day she got it.
Stand people in a cirlce each with a set of diabolo strings, one
person has a diabolo and gets it spinning then with a shout passes
the diabolo to the next person with a throw who then has to catch it
and when ready pass it on again.
This sounds easy but often the way it is being whipped to make it
spin has to be reversed when caught by the next person to match the
way it is already spinning.
Once people have picked it up it can bcome more adventureous by
adding tricks and more hieght in the throws.
It really is good fun and you can find yourself playing for ages.
I have a rule that before a throw you shout ‘mind your heads’ so
that everyone is alert whilst it is in the air.
A good site to help you get started is Diabolo Tricks www.diabolotricks.com
