Youth and crime (The truth).

Great post by Mark over on Way out West on how the media portrays young people in the UK. I won’t summerize what he has written as it is great so check it out.

A worrying statistic.

A new Europeon study claims that more than a fith of 16 - 24 year olds admit to using cocaine at least once a month and that was in 2005-2006.

It is a issue that any of us working with young people should be aware of in what ever context we find ourselves. Our education and advice we offer is really important and having enough knowledge and knowing the local agencies that can assist is vital.

A good idea from Gordon Brown!

According to the papers today Gordon Brown has ordered a crackdown on underage drinking over Christmas.

Undercover Police and a team of young people will test shops by asking for alcohol. Some 1600 pubs and shops known to sell alcohol to people underage will be targeted and those caught will be fined or lose their licences. (Personally I think they should lose their licence a fine doesn’t deal with it).

New section.

I have added a new section that I will add bits found about young people in the media some with comment. Also things that will challenge stereo typing of young people and other vunerable groups. So watch this space.

Great stuff from asbojesus.

I love this from the amazing asbojesus, and I have seen it on many sites already. Jon Birch is a genius.

This is one of the things I spend alot of time trying to break down.

ASBO’d

asbo'd.jpgI love this idea from FYT about turning the negative image  the media portrays about all young people on its head with this positive asbo certificate. You can download them here.

Are we thinking for ourselves?

When you see a Muslim lady what is your reaction especially if she is wearing her hijab?

I have a Muslim friend and she is fed up of the looks and the fear she sees in peoples eyes when she gets on the tube.

She says she wants people to see the real her.

The media influences our views more than we like to admit. Can you see through th blur?
