Lectio Divina
How to do lectio:

Read a passage from the Bible take your time, be reflective, it is best read aloud.

When you have done that do it again paying attention to any words that catch your imagination, stand out or light up. Stay with this bit, think about it, meditate on it, repeat it in your mind, take note of what you are thinking.

Read the passage again and then pray about the thoughts that have come out of your meditation, let your prayer flow around this topic as a natural conversation would be with a friend, be open and honest.

When that comes to an end sit quietly in God’s presence and enjoy it, listen to see if God wants to say anything else then share your thoughts and insights with the group, a friend or record it so you can look back at it later.

It is really important not to rush, slow and quiet is key, if doing it in a group get them to find a space of their own and come back at a certain time to share. It may be best to do a group one first to show the method, then on their own.

This has always had a profound impact on the young people I have taught it to and can develop into a lasting discipline.
